Rajasthan Royals, the inaugural champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL), are geared up for the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction. This auction will see all ten franchises making significant changes to their squads by retaining core and releasing the majority of their players, including the Royals, who are eager to strengthen their team after strong performances in recent seasons. 

Since the 2022 mega auction, Rajasthan Royals have established themselves as one of the top-performing teams in the IPL. Under Sanju Samson’s captaincy, they reached the final in 2022, narrowly missed the knockout stages in 2023, and secured a respectable third-place in 2024. Despite showing promise in the early stages of the last season, the Royals were eliminated after losing Qualifier 2 to Sunrisers Hyderabad, ending their run just before the final.

Rajasthan Royals fill all Retention Slots; Drops RTM Possibilities for star players 

For the upcoming season, Rajasthan Royals have retained four key players: captain Sanju Samson, Sandeep Sharma, Riyan Parag, and rising stars Yashasvi Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurel alongside the overseas player Shimron Hetmyer. 

However, the team has released several big names, including Jos Buttler, Trent Boult, Yuzvendra Chahal and R Ashwin. This move also suggests that the Royals will not be able to leverage Right to Match (RTM) cards to bring back some of their star players during the auction. 

Despite a talented lineup, the Royals have yet to secure their second IPL title after 2008. The upcoming mega auction offers them a chance to rebuild a balanced squad that could finally push them over the finishing line. 

With Sanju Samson taking the command once again, the Royals will aim to add new strengths to their lineup in hopes of a successful 2025 season, as they strive to once again claim the IPL title.
