The IPL 2022 debutants, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have recently announced their list for retention and release ahead of IPL 2025 and have  made headlines by not retaining their skipper, KL Rahul, ending his three-year association with the franchise. 

Speculation around Rahul’s departure began after a viral moment featuring LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka. Following LSG’s heavy 10-wicket defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2024, Goenka was seen in an animated discussion with Rahul, sparking rumors that it could be his final season with the team. On October 31, LSG confirmed this by retaining only five players, with KL Rahul being absent from the list.

Nicholas Pooran bags hefty amount; LSG Backs young talent for IPL 2025

Among the retained players, West Indies wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran bagged a hefty amount of Rs 21 crore, provided his explosive performances last season. Pooran has been a crucial part of the LSG lineup, and has consistently delivered with the bat and helped guide the team through crucial matches.

Fast bowler Mayank Yadav was another retention for Rs 11 crore, reflecting the franchise’s belief in his potential despite injury concerns. Spinner Ravi Bishnoi, who has been with LSG since its inception, was retained for Rs 11 crore, underscoring the team’s confidence in the young bowler’s capabilities. Bishnoi has shown steady growth and remains a vital part of their bowling attack.

LSG also retained two uncapped players, Mohsin Khan and Ayush Badoni, for Rs 4 crore each. Both players have demonstrated promising talent, and the team aims to further nurture them in the upcoming season.

With Rahul’s departure and a core of retained players, LSG heads into the IPL 2025 auction focused on filling key gaps to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season.
