The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially informed IPL franchises that the upcoming IPL 2025 player auction will feature two sets of marquee players. Scheduled for November 24 and 25 at the Abady Al Johar Arena in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the auction will showcase top players and see competitive bidding.
The BCCI has outlined two elite lists, each comprising 8-9 marquee players, marking the first dual-list format since the IPL auctions in 2018 and 2014. Among the players expected to feature in the marquee sets are Indian stars like Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Mohammed Siraj, and Mohammed Shami, alongside international stars such as Mitchell Starc and Jos Buttler.
IPL 2025 Mega Auction to be held in Jeddah with elite player lists and high stakes for franchises
With marquee players setting a base price of INR 2 crore, analysts expect that the first two sets alone will draw up to 50 percent of the available funds, with franchises aiming to acquire at least two top-tier players. Punjab Kings, holding the largest purse at INR 110.5 crore, are likely to lead the competition for marquee names.
The BCCI circulated a register of 1,574 players, including 1,165 Indians and 409 overseas players, with 46 players retained across franchises. The register includes capped and uncapped players from India and abroad, as well as 30 Associate players. Franchises have been invited to suggest additional names by November 12 for final inclusion.
The full bidding order and marquee list are expected to be released shortly, setting the stage for an intense two-day auction in Jeddah, where franchises will vie for the best talent to strengthen their IPL 2025 rosters.
