Caoimhe Bray Becomes Youngest WBBL Player at the age of 15, Shines in Sydney Sixers Victory

At just 15 years of age, Caoimhe Bray has made history to become the youngest player to ever feature in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL). Playing a crucial role in the Sydney Sixers’ win over Melbourne Renegades, Bray, who recently celebrated her 15th birthday in September, dismissed the star West Indies batter Deandra Dottin aa her first WBBL wicket and sealed the game with an unbeaten 12 off 5 deliveries.

In the match, Sydney Sixers chased down a target of 179, led by Ellyse Perry’s fiery knock of 81 off 38 balls.

Bray’s participation in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) has shattered Phoebe Litchfield’s record, who debuted for Sydney Thunder at the age of 16 back in 2019 and quickly made an impact by scoring a half-century in her second match.

‘I haven’t seen a 15-year-old hit a four over cover like that’ – Ellyse Perry on Caoimhe Bray

Ellyse Perry, the modern day legend, praised Bray’s remarkable debut in the post match presentation. She said, “I haven’t seen a 15-year-old hit a four over cover like that to win a game before, so that’s a first. She’s very special, a legend, and we’re very lucky to have her on our team.”

A lifelong fan of Perry, Bray described the experience of playing with her as a “dream come true.” The young star said, “If you ask all my primary school friends, every school project was about her. She gave me the cap before the game and I was crying a little bit. It was really exciting—a memory I won’t forget.”

Like Perry, Bray is also an accomplished footballer, representing Australia as a goalkeeper at the youth level, mirroring Perry’s achievement of representing Australia in both sports.
