Former New Zealand cricketer and commentator Simon Doull has recently opined that the Chennai Super Kings team management will heavily spend on India’s India’s star wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant to fill the massive void by the iconic skipper, MS Dhoni whenever he retires from IPL.
Speaking on Sports18, Doull expressed confidence that CSK will “spend heavily” on Pant if he becomes available in the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction, considering his potential to continue Dhoni’s legacy in the franchise.
‘He’s CSK’s man to take them through post MS Dhoni’ – Simon Doull
“After what I’ve seen in this series I think Rachin Ravindra. And as I said the other day, I think they’re just going to go heavily for Rishabh Pant if he goes into auction. He’s their man to take them through post MS Dhoni wherever that may be,” Simon Doull said.
Doull further discussed Pant’s aggressive style, leadership qualities, and fearlessness, aligning with CSK’s brand and philosophy. Pant has already proven himself as a bold and dynamic player, both with the bat and behind the stumps. “Rishabh Pant is the one,” Doull affirmed, suggesting that Pant could offer the same confidence and finishing abilities that Dhoni brought to the franchise since the inception of the Indian Premier League.
Currently, Rishabh Pant serves as the captain of Delhi Capitals’ (DC). However, as per the recent speculations, the youngster is expected to enter the IPL 2025 mega auction. Doull believes CSK would not hesitate if Pant enters the auction pool.
Doull’s comments have fueled excitement and speculation among fans and cricket analysts alike about CSK’s possible moves in upcoming IPL auctions. CSK fans will be eager to see if Pant eventually dons the yellow jersey, carrying forward in a new era after Dhoni.
