‘Virat Kohli blocked me on Instagram’ – Glenn Maxwell’s shocking statement on former Indian captain

The star Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has recently reflected on the time when the former Indian captain and the modern Day legend, Virat Kohli had blocked him on the popular social networking platform, Instagram.

Notably, the duo who now share an incredible friendship were not really close friends in the past and always shared a fierce rivalry due to a similar attacking playing style.

Glenn Maxwell, who has recently released his book, The showman has mentioned the incident where Virat Kohli blocked him on Instagram, owing to the Australian’s mocking gestures during the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2017.

Back on Day 1 of 3rd Test in Ranchi of BGT 2017, Virat Kohli got hurt while fielding. In the next innings when Australia entered the field, Maxwell mocked the Indian Skipper and copied Virat’s style of clutching his shoulder. Kohli ultimately missed the final game in Dharamsala because of the injury, and didn’t forgive Maxwell for his reaction, which prompted him to block the Australian all-rounder on Instagram.

‘We became great friends’ – Glenn Maxwell on Virat Kohli

“When I joined RCB, Virat was the first guy to welcome me. During the practice sessions, we spend a lot of time together. I was following him on social media but couldn’t find his profile one day. I knew he was there on social media but his profile was not showing up. Someone told me that he might have blocked you. This is the only reason you are not able to find him. I didn’t believe that person”, Maxwell wrote in his book.

The destructive batter further mentioned how he cleared the air with Virat Kohli and wrote, “I asked him if he had blocked me. He said yes. Kohli told me about the incident when I mocked him and he decided to block me on Instagram. He ended up unblocking me after a while and we became great friends after that.”

In his book, Maxwell has also discussed how Virat backed him in Royal Challengers Bangalore when he parted ways with Punjab Kings ahead of IPL 2021. RCB welcomed Maxwell for a whopping amount of INR 14.25 crore in IPL 2021 where the team made it to the playoffs and finished third.
