Delhi Capitals (DC) who are awaiting to claim the IPL title, have made some significant moves to change their fortunes ahead of the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction. On October 31, DC announced their list of retained and released players, surprising fans by releasing their skipper and star batsman, Rishabh Pant, who was the franchise’s highest run-scorer. 

After nine years with DC, Pant will re-enter the auction pool, leaving the Capitals with a core lineup that includes Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Tristan Stubbs, and Abishek Porel.

In the 2024 season, DC’s journey ended in sixth place on the points table with seven wins in 14 matches, with a tally of 14 points. Since rebranding from Delhi Daredevils to Delhi Capitals, the franchise has improved steadily, often coming close to lifting the trophy but never quite managing to clinch it.

Delhi Capitals start fresh in the coaching department for IPL 2025

Over the 17 IPL seasons, DC has made it to the playoffs six times and including reaching the finals once, in 2020, where they narrowly missed the trophy, falling against Mumbai Indians. 

The Capitals are also making changes off the field, with a fresh start in the coaching department. After seven successful years with Ricky Ponting at the helm, DC is moving in a new direction. This strategic shift aims to build a new era for DC, focusing on both stability and innovation as they prepare for the IPL 2025 season. 

Armed with a significant budget, DC will look to use the auction to bolster their squad with their spin bowling department being sorted. With the right acquisitions, the franchise hopes to assemble a balanced team with attacking batters and pacers that can end their title drought and bring home their first IPL trophy in 2025.
