Sunrisers Hyderabad Retention for IPL 2025

The runners-up of the previous Indian Premier League (IPL) season, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have announced their exclusive list of retained and released players ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.

SRH have confirmed the retention of their five key match winners, Heinrich Klaasen, Travis Head, Pat Cummins, Abhishek Sharma, and Nitish Kumar Reddy. These players will form the foundation of SRH’s lineup, with additional roster moves expected in the upcoming November auction.

With the retention, Heinrich Klaasen has become the most expensive player in the history of IPL retention. The Sunrisers Hyderabad have devoted a whopping amount of INR 23 crore for Klaasen, who will be seen keeping the wickets for the franchise in IPL 2025.

The team franchise has decided to release several star players from the squad including the South African T20 skipper Aiden Markram, Washington Sundar, Glen Phillips, Bhuvaneswar Kumar and many more.

After three challenging seasons from 2021 to 2023, where SRH finished eighth twice and last in 2023, the team saw a remarkable comeback in IPL 2024. Adopting a dynamic, high-risk approach, SRH’s aggressive gameplay broke records multiple times, setting the highest first-innings total on three separate occasions.

Their electrifying form throughout the season was a major factor in their run to the final, establishing them as one of the most formidable sides in the tournament.

Despite having a more subdued fan base compared to other franchises, SRH has consistently excelled in crafting powerful, balanced and competitive squads, thanks to their keen auction strategy. This strategic approach also bagged them to their maiden IPL title in 2016 under the leadership of David Warner.

As SRH prepares to enhance their roster for IPL 2025, the retained core brings both experience and firepower, aiming to build on their recent success and take one step further to secure the coveted IPL trophy.
